  Mark Bernstein

Mark Bernstein is President and Center Director of the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). He was named to this position in December 2001 to lead PARC through its transition from Xerox research division to an independent research company. Under Bernstein's leadership, PARC retains close strategic ties with Xerox and is creating value through new strategic relationships with a small number of global, industry-leading companies.

Since assuming this role, Bernstein has led PARC in expanding both the research focus and scope of commercial impact. He has defined and led the implementation of PARC's business strategy, including the company's overall business planning, organizational design and strategic customer relationships.

Prior to his current role, Bernstein worked closely with PARC's two preceding directors to develop and manage PARC's research agenda, technology directions and business initiatives. Beginning in 1992, he served as Manager of Research Strategy under John Seely Brown, and, in 2000, became Associate Center Director working with Michael Paige.

Throughout his involvement in PARC's management, he has driven relationships with internal and external customers of PARC's technology. He has led the integration of intellectual property and business concepts into new business opportunities, both inside Xerox and as spin-off companies.

Bernstein joined PARC in 1979 with a broad background in semiconductor research and product development. He received a BSME from the University of Colorado in 1973 and an MBA from the College of Notre Dame in 1991.
